Writing an IPDP with SMARTC goals
An Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) sets one to three goals for one to three school years. The teacher writes it once and the principal approves it once.
Start your plan
On My PD, click Start your plan, pick the school year it starts and the one it ends, and write up to three goals. Save draft keeps your work; Submit to my principal sends it, or lists what is still missing.
A two-sentence summary
Each goal starts with a summary of one or two sentences, up to 400 characters. It is how the goal shows everywhere, so keep it short. Edventory warns you past two sentences but never stops you.
Six SMARTC lines
Below the summary, one line each: what you will do, how you will measure it, the support you need, why it matters, when, and who you will work with.
Approval
The plan goes to your principal like a request does. They approve it, or send it back with a note on what to change. An approved plan's goals are locked. Saving a change sends the plan back to draft, and it needs approving again. Close the editor without saving to keep your approval.
Track your progress
Each goal lists the requests and catalog sessions that support it, with the hours and credits they earned. Add a + Progress note, with a document from your file cabinet if you like, and Mark met or Drop goal when the time comes. A dropped goal can be made active again if it was part of the plan your principal approved; one dropped before that is added back by editing the plan.
| SMARTC | The question it answers |
|---|---|
| Specific | What exactly will you do? |
| Measurable | How will you know it worked? What will you measure? |
| Achievable | What will you need to reach it (time, training, materials)? |
| Relevant | How does it help your students or our school goal? |
| Time-bound | By when, and what are the checkpoints along the way? |
| Collaborative | Who will you work with, and how? |
